Nepal Wood Carving
| Yesterday I was fortunate enough to visit a village that is off the map in Nepal. It is the village where all the beautifully carved figurines that you find in Kathmandu come from. It is a village filled with workers. On every corner, on every stoop, in every doorway, throughout every alleyway, people were working. Most were so engaged in their work that they were oblivious to a "bideshi" (white person) walking by...a very refreshing feeling! In Kathmandu you are approached constantly, being persuaded to buy trinkets, clothing, food, etc. In Bumati however, people peacefully worked away at their craft and only looked up to smile. These photos are here to give you a glimpse into small town Nepal and show you the origins of some of the things we all buy in the big cities! |
